THE REMAINS OF N.E.M. CATHEDRAL AFTER THE BOKO HARAM BOMBING             REV. DAN. IK EGBOKA

Rev. Daniel Ikechukwu Egboka and Rev. Timothy Ukaora arrived Maiduguri in the month of April 1975 to establish the branch of National Evangelical Mission Inc. They were the third ministry to hold a city-wide crusade in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital of north-easthern Nigeria. That time the Muslims were not as violent as they are today. It was after the city-wide crusade held at the Ramat Square that the church started in a primary school classroom..

The season was not conducive for Rev. Timothy Ukaora so he left and Rev. Egboka continued with the work. It was an extremely hot whether but the grace of God was sufficient for him and the brethren fellowshiping with him then.

The church in Maiduguri grew in the face of attacks. Apart from attacks from the Islamic faithfulls, the church was also faced with deceits from false brethren. As the church grew, it became evident that a permanent place of fellowship was necessary. They sought and applied for a parcel of land from the Government of the day. As God would have it, when the Federal Military Government was about to hand over to a democratically elected Government in 1979, the boss in the Land and Survey Ministry felt it was time to help all the churches that applied for land so, he allocated the Wulari area to churches and fortunately N.E.M. got the parcel of land where they built a befitting edifice for worship.

It was this magnificent edifice, our Jajeri District Headquarter Church, offices and parsonages that were bombed and the brethren roasted in the flame by the Islamic faithfulls called BOKO HARAM on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 July, 2009. You will find some disturbing pictures on our Boko Haram Attack page. Be strong and courageous!

Remember, Jesus said - "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." - John 16:33.

Even though some of us were burnt to ashes and our church buildings demolished with bombs, the Gospel of our Glorious Lord and Saviour Jesus is still intact and we must go ahead preaching and teaching according to His commandments. We are reconstructing our lives and buildings now. Therefore, we solicite for your help and encouragement more so as we see the day of the Lord rapidly approaching.
